Downtown West

The North Loop neighborhood of Minneapolis, often referred to as the Warehouse District, has evolved from its industrial roots into a vibrant and trendy area within the city.  Situated just northwest of downtown Minneapolis, its geographic location offers convenient access to the heart of the city while retaining its distinct character, offering glimpses into its past while embracing the vibrant spirit of the present.

The history of the North Loop is deeply intertwined with Minneapolis’ rise as a major industrial center in the upper Midwest and Great Lakes region. Once home to numerous warehouses and factories serving the city’s booming economy in the late 19th and early-20th century, the neighborhood witnessed a significant decline in industrial activity by the mid-20th century.

Its historic architecture and proximity to downtown began attracting a new wave of residents seeking affordable spaces for artistic endeavors and loft living.  This influx of creative energy laid the groundwork for the neighborhood’s resurgence as a sought-after residential and commercial district, leading the North Loop to experience some of the most dramatic changes of any neighborhood in the Twin Cities over over the past 15 years.

Today, this development boom has transformed the North Loop’s abandoned warehouses into modern loft-style condos and apartments, and has helped the neighborhood become one of the most walkable and pedestrian-friendly in the entire city.  An ever-evolving plethora of upscale boutiques and businesses line the ground floors of most properties in the neighborhood, including some of the best restaurants the city has to offer.
